The Dirty Dozen

Over a dozen CrossFit Oakdale Athletes took part in the Proanox Diamond of the Tough Online Qualifier.  Over a 3 week process (which ended up being 6 scored workouts) Team CFO fought to earn spots in a final event, abortion the Diamond of the Tough held on 9/29 in Santa Cruz.  This was a “Master’s” event, pill with age categories starting at 35-39 and finishing with 55 and over (sorry young’ens).

By my count, side effects Team CFO qualified 12 athletes for the Diamond of the Tough!  Huge congratulations go to Trevor and I, Alison, Tricia, Melissa, Conney, Denny, Bob, Janet, Don, Gloria, and Robin.

Should we call this “The Dirty Dozen”?

Melissa won the row for calories event in week 2!

Don and Tricia won the clean for load event in week 2!

In the final WOD, Robin beat Charm Mathis, the 3rd Fittest Woman in the world (!) in her age category in the Push Press AMRAP in week 3.  BOOM!

I placed second overall in my age category (behind the beast that is Chad Augustin) but there was nothing in this event that I was really good at, I was just very consistent.  That went for the whole gym.  There wasn’t a WOD that came up that I thought, “INSERT NAME should smash this!”  Nothing played to our advantage, we just took measured approaches to get the job done, allowing overall fitness to carry us.

I like these online events because it gives you time to test things out without the claustrophobic atmosphere of a CrossFit competition.  You are given a week to practice the movements, figure out how to attack and put it to the test.

I will say, I am extremely proud how well everyone did on high skill, tough movements like double unders and handstand pushups.  For many of you, you had never done these movements until a year ago, and many of you didn’t have them in you CrossFit “toolbox” until recently…maybe even this week.  That should give you great confidence moving forward!
Honorable mention goes out to Kirk who conquered the double unders of WOD#3. Way to keep at it!

My favorite moment of the event, by far, was the final night.  Walking into the gym at 6pm on Thursday, watching everyone getting ready with nervous anticipation was just outstanding.  Words of encouragement, tips and trips to go faster, sharing equipment, it was just a great team effort.  Did you ever think you’d be hanging around a warehouse on a Thursday night watching people exercise?  Did you ever think this would put tears in your eyes?
