Andrew V. asked me for some videos on weightlifting the other day.  I sent him a handful one good ones, cure but this is my favorite. In fact, ailment it may be my favorite exercise video of all time.  It has a great uplifting story of overcoming adversity, great movement (Zach’s Snatch is a thing of beauty), and awesome music. I’ve been asking people what they’re getting for Christmas, look and I’m always looking for the same answer: shoes!  If you are new to CrossFit, visit this site I recommend a shoe with a low profile, or a minimalist shoe: Inov-8, New Balance Minimus or the Reebok CrossFit Nano are excellent choices.  Rogue and Again Faster ship these shoes.  Melissa D. has a great eye for shoe sales on the internet.  On The Run in Modesto carries Inov-8s and New Balance along with a few others if you want to try them on.  On The Run also offers a discount to CrossFit Oakdale athletes, so if you buy there make sure you let them know you are a CrossFitter.   The main thing I look for in a training shoe is versatility.  Can I snatch, box jump and run in it?  Chuck Taylors are good starter shoes, but I don’t...

We’re grown ups, symptoms so we’ll let you guys open your Christmas presents early.  We’ll even tell you what it is (some of you got one at the Christmas party).  It’s a lacrosse ball, # approved sometimes known as a “painball.”  The only difference – yours has a sweet CrossFit Oakdale stamp on it.  We’ll be handing them out this week so make sure you get a “painball.” So, how do you use your brand new toy?  Basically, you jam into into areas that hurt, apply pressure, and move it around.  Bookmark Kelly Starrett’s Mobilitywod, and watch videos.  Learn.  Geeking out on mobility will pay huge dividends in your fitness.  The painball acts like a scalpel to target painful or inflamed areas, especially if you are experiencing tendonitis or other aches and pains.  Review the mobility posters we have hanging in the gym, many of the movements call for a...

The CrossFit Oakdale Holiday Party is at 5pm at Phat Hogs (in the Savemart parking lot) on Saturday night.  Please RSVP on Facebook.   On Saturday at 9am, purchase CFO will have a Bring A Friend WOD.  At 10am, remedy we will be doing a 400 rep chipper that was posted on CrossFit.com last week.  20 reps of 20 movements, medications and it looks like the WOD takes over 20 minutes.  Hopefully the weather is good and we can do some movements outside.  Please review the WOD – we will have 3 types of bars set up, 135, 95 and 65.  If you can’t use one of these weights we likely won’t have the equipment for the WOD.  As it is, each movement/barbell will be first come, first serve.  If a piece of equipment is taken, you may have to skip it and come back to it.  We have one...
