On Tuesday night we had the pleasure of meeting Justin and Clarissa Hall of Featherhead Farms. Located right around the corner on Claribel and Langworth, Justin and Clarissa are a breath of fresh air. They were able to teach us about their pasture based farm where they raise happy, healthy chickens, turkeys and pigs. Their animals feed off the pasture: they eat a mixture of different types of pastured grass, giving their meat a variety of flavors. This means that they not chowing down on feed that is made with soy. The land that these animals roam has been certified organic for 20 years.
The demonstration showed how to make multiple meals out of one 4-5 pound chicken. That is ALL chicken – no salt water fillers for these birds. After learning how to make a chicken boneless and skinless, we were able to see all of the goodness that could go into a bone broth…including the feet (I got these:).)
Coach Tricia who attended the event says, “They are pretty passionate about what they do. What appears to excite them is that they can stand behind their product, and back it quality product with their 5 level EMS certification. For me it makes me want to give them business. It is right there.”
You can go and see their product – they will even open air process it for you right then and there if you want.
We picked up a organic pasture raised 5# bird for $30. That is $6/LB. We are a family of 5 – you have seen my kids. One of them is a full grown man and the other 2 eat like full grown men. Though I normally have to buy 2 rotisserie chickens to feed these particular animals one meal, I am expecting this bird to give us 1 meal of meat, one chicken soup night plus extra bone broth.
If you didn’t have a chance to meet Justin and Clarissa last night, they will be back for Summer Slam on August 19th.
Why do we need bone broth??
You can order their inventory online and they will drop it off at the gym.
