CrossFit Oakdale hopes you had a restful and merry Christmas! We’ll resume classes on Monday. We’ll have CrossFit classes at 9am, health 5:30 and 6:30pm, more about with open gym at 4:30pm. There will be no 6am class on Monday, but we plan on having 6am classes on Wednesday and Friday. If schedules are still slow, I may hold the 6am classes at 7am. Once the new year rolls around, I hope to have a steady 6am class.
Alison got some Inov8 shoes for Christmas. If you’ve known me for more than a few minutes, you know that I am a shoe hound. If you’re new to CrossFit, you may notice that very few of us wear “normal” running shoes (by normal, I mean a thick, cushion-y heel). We generally seek out a flat, “low-profile” or “minimalist” running shoes. We do this for many reasons, some of which are: they are more stable to lift/squat in, they may help correct heel striking, the may help develop “pose running”. Developing proper running mechanics is just as important a developing a safe deadlift.
One of the coolest things about being around CrossFitters is the fact they will educate themselves on the best methods, ideas, and products to better develop their health and fitness. If you are looking to learn, plug the keys words I put in parenthesis into google and begin your research.
I normally bought my shoes over the internet, as finding minimalist shoes in a normal store was tough. Now you find ’em easier. Inov8’s are VERY popular in the CrossFit world, and they are now carried at On The Run in McHenry Village. I was slow to the Inov8 game, but they seem like pretty sweet shoes. Stable but flexible, and seemingly durable. For me, durability is the key, and we’ll have to see.

Shoe choice doesn’t matter much when you can do handstands like this!
