Relay For Life

This past weekend CrossFit Oakdale and CrossFit Kids Oakdale brought their teams to the Relay for Life at the Oakdale High School. All money raised through Relay for Life goes to the American Cancer Society, information pills supporting research for the cure of all types of Cancer.

I am not sure how many other teams there were on the field this weekend, but each and every booth had a reason to fight. They fought for their family members who have lost their battle and they fought for the survivors that walked the field with them. They did all of this with a smile.

This is a 24 hour event…so in the hot sun people are walking and in the cold damp morning people are walking. Each team sets up a booth with fundraisers. One booth had a beautiful purple VW Bug (old School) painted with types of cancer. For $1 you could swing a sledge hammer twice and “BEAT the BUG”. Kids with “Cancer Sucks” shirts manned the jousting booth. There were contests throughout the day, raffles everywhere and every penny went to ACS. Needless to say most of our money went to the jousting booth, though I did pay to put a couple kids in Jail. Even if one broke out. Cafe Bliss brought in free soup around 2am. The Taco soup was delish!

I want to thank everyone who came out to walk, to talk and help us raise money. The Ghiglia’s bought their cookie booth and sold cookies, Gloria donated amazing scones and cookies, Desiree came through with spirit, ideas and raffle donations! Thank you to Ashly from Bling It On, Melissa at Gun and Ammo Supply, & Alexis at Hula’s.

Thank you to everyone who donated money to our Teams! Both teams together raised over $2000.

I will be honest, I love spending time with you guys. I loved watching the kids play and jump over mats over and over again. I love the handstand walking practice behind the tents. I love the circle of chairs and people just sitting around talking. Even into the wee hours of the morning. Which reminds me, Thank you to Chance who brought coffee at 1am. Chance walked over 40 laps and got a free tshirt in the process…he walked from 3am to 5am.

Thank you to the Wessling Family who helped load/unload and setup for the event! Thanks to Hannah for helping with the kids games. Even bigger thanks to Kate who sold probably 75% of the raffle tickets, games and cookies. We saw great things from her during the Open with her organization skills, but she topped her performance this time.

If you missed out, Regionals are coming up and we do a great “hang out session” there. Make sure you join in!
