Whew, physician what a weekend!  CrossFit Oakdale Athletes took on The Diamond of the Tough on Saturday and the Tough Mudder in Diablo Grande on Sunday. I’ll admit, pill I’m a little tired.  I’ll give a full report on the Diamond of the Tough tomorrow, and a rundown of the Tough Mudder the following day.  Rest assured, at both events CrossFit Oakdale athletes performed well, met the standard, and battled until the finish. But, more importantly we supported each other the whole way.  Many athletes, and even more who weren’t competing, took a drive Friday night, and woke early on Saturday to cheer and support their friends and family members. On Sunday, we woke early (again) on stuck together through a grueling obstacle course. The camaraderie from the weekend was amazing.  Cheers, sharing food and stories, laughs and more made what could have been a long weekend into a memorable...

CFO ATHLETES: CrossFit Oakdale will be closed Saturday.  Many of us will be taking on the Proanox Diamond of the Tough in Santa Cruz.  On Sunday, # sale many of us (some of the same Team CFO athletes) will be taking on the Tough Mudder at Diablo Grande.  Ready For Anything!   CJ Martin of CrossFit Invictus runs a great gym, and trains  a bunch of Games athletes.  At the end of every week, CJ posts the same “active” recovery for his athletes before a weekend of heavy work.  This grocery list of stuff looks like it would take a few hours to complete if handled properly.  Just be aware of what other athletes are putting into their fitness. James Fitzgerald from OPT shows one of his athletes’ meals for the week. While writing the game day nutrition post, treatment I had some more thoughts that fell more into a “preparation and comfort” domain, order so here goes.   Get to the venue early.  Register and get your area set up (bring an easy up), what is ed then start looking around at the warm up and competition area.  If you’re lucky, you have a big crew and you can work together to workout a spot.   Work out the bathroom situation.  I highly recommend handling your “morning constitutional” at home or the hotel.  Unless you want to wait at a line at the venue or use a port-a-john.  Also, because you’ll be hydrating and nervous, you’ll likely pee a lot.  I like to find the most isolated restroom so I’m not waiting in lines or feeling rushed.   Bring your jump rope, chalk, tape, weightlifting shoes, wrist wraps, belt, foam roller,...

We’ve had some questions about pre-competition and competition day nutrition.  My first piece of advice is – Prepare.  You don’t want to be scrambling around for food from vendors as your post WOD meal.  Shop before the event with a list.  Pack in advance.  What you eat is important, pilule but the fact THAT you eat is more important.  Nerves may get in the way, capsule so your stomach will need to be able to handle what you’re putting down your neck.   Pre Game   In the 2-3 days before the event, medications I think about loading on carbs.  I eat clean protein sources, lots of red meat and fatty chicken (legs and thighs baby).  Now I do not shy away from potatoes or rice (only gluten free Japanese sticky rice for me).  I normally don’t eat these type of carbs during the week, and save them to fuel...
