I am not stressed about being 40. I realize this is going to sound like I am, but I am not. I am actually really excited. I don’t feel old, adultish or the like. I might not make millions, but I am pretty proud of the successes I have under my belt. I don’t feel like death is knocking at my door, but there are a few more creaks, pops and strains (INFLAMMATION) than there were 7 years ago. No worries – I will tackle that head on. If inflammation is my enemy I am willing to try any means to tackle it. And I did last week.
Saturday, April 22nd, was the last time I drank coffee. You know – the amazing brown liquid of the gods that provides about 95% of my energy. My fuel injected approximately 10 minutes after I wake up and then again 8 hours later. It is how I get through 4 hours shifts of work, make dinner in the middle of the day and seemingly keep it together. BUT all of that caffeine was also messing with my sleep cycle, increasing my “gotta-love-it” anxiety, and be a factor in the thing I HATE the most – leaky gut. I also have named some kidney stones “Peet” and “Major Dickason.”
So I am on a path to cure my leaky gut – that bubbly, growly, bloated, icky tummy you might wake up with or find you have after eating something that doesn’t agree with you. Leaky gut is inflammation. Inflammation affects EVERY aspect of your health – building muscle, recovery from workouts, hormonal issues, metabolism, central nervous system issues, immune system…I could go on and on, but I might be giving your eyes inflammation;)
So giving up caffeine is my first attack. I have replied it with caffeine free tea, just to have a hot drink in the morning. I don’t want to give up the sipping something in bed while reading my book (or maybe checking Instagram – I am only human.)
I am not sure I would have told you before I was 40 about my personal leaky gut, but that is me. I am a leaky gut fixing, autoimmune warrior who has good days and bad, but is on the path to self love, surrounding myself with awesome people who are looking for the same thing. Get ready for our 6 week challenge – what can you get rid of?
Oh and I don’t think I am awesome for giving up coffee. I am awesome for so many other things than that. #selflove
