We have mentioned “the Open” at least 500 times over the past few weeks. Some of you may already be getting your potential costumes ready. Others may be nervous about that last sentence. But I assure you, it will be ok. More than ok, it will be GREAT.
The CrossFit Open was introduced to us in 2011 and has been the feeder for the Games ever since. Initially 5 weeks of WOD’s, including almost every movement and most definitely a thruster, it has now been cut back to 3 weeks. We try to make the most out of those three weeks.
Three weeks of workouts with royal treatment! You get someone to count your reps for you and you just have to perform them properly. Easy Peasy. There are RX workouts, scaled workouts and a foundations one for those very new to CrossFit. There is something for everyone.
The gym will be split into two teams with a team leader at the head of it. (Want to be a team leader? Let us know!)
Teams will compete for points in a multitude of ways. You can earn points for theme related stuff (t-shirts, costumes, etc.,) guessing the secretive WOD’s, the effort that you put into workouts, social media shares and judging.
The WOD’s are released on Thursdays at 12pm PT., and scores must be submitted by the following Monday at 5pm PT. We program them for Fridays and Saturdays in the gym, and you can use Sunday Open gym as well. If you are not participating in a class, you will have to make sure you have a registered judge for the off time, as well as let Alison know what your plans are.
Teams will be split up on February 1st. You can start earning points TODAY. Athletes that are registered online before Friday will earn 25 points for their upcoming teams.
AND we are lucky enough to be in the West Coast Affiliate where there will be a leaderboard for ALL affiliates that are participating in the Open. We will be competing against other affiliates:) To participate in that, you will need to register online.
If you are reading this and thinking…I am not ready for the Open, I am new to CrossFit, I won’t be an asset to my team… YOU ARE WRONG. You can’t hurt your team, only help them. PLUS it is all about the team spirit. There are so many ways to earn points that are not CrossFit related.
The most important reason – Athletes PR in the Open. It is a fact. There is magic in the air. First pull-ups happen in the Open. PR lifts happen in the Open. You seeing how amazing you are and that all your hard work has paid off happens in the Open. So get signed up to be put on a team and register for the Open! (Online registration is not mandatory to be put on a team.)
