Over the last 6 weeks, # 60mg 11 participants have documented every workout, more about photographed meals, visit shared recipes and accepted every challenge I threw at them. Congratulations to Robin, Bill, Vanessa, Justin, Gina, Sandy, Kelly, Rita, Joe, Michelle & Danny for finishing up strong.
This Challenge focused on an archevore lifestyle – a Paleo 2.0 if you may. We removed most grains, processed foods, sugar, alcohol and most dairy. There was an emphasis on sleep, fish oil & vitamin D supplement, water intake and exercise.
Within the first few weeks, they were challenged to make a dish using local and organic food. Sandy, Bill & Vanessa stepped up to the plate and brought in sweet potato-zucchini pancakes, a grapefruit salad, and a polenta pizza. It was all delicious…and the judges appreciated it.
The second challenge was the most important. I had taken some foods away – the dairy, sugar and some grains. That was just to ease them into it. Now it was time for the real thing. For the most part, people who participated in this challenge said they would probably continue to be more paleo than archevore.
The third challenge was a week of Tabata. Vanessa won this challenge with a total of over 560 points.
In the end these 11 people lost a total of 22% of body fat and gained 31.5 LB’s of muscle. Whaaaattt! That’s right. Rita lost over 15% of her own total body fat and Kelly gained 12# of muscle. Joe lost 9.5#, over 4% body fat, gained 3#’s of muscle AND improved on his baseline WOD…shaving off over 3 minutes!
Thanks to everyone who brought in tasty dishes to last night’s award ceremony. It was the best dinner yet.
If you haven’t had a chance to look at the EWLB challengers page on Facebook, you should. It shows the spirit of these dedicated people. They communicated through it, cheering each other on, sharing recipes and pictures.
I can’t thank them enough for their creativity, competitive spirit and all around want to be better and feel better. This has now become a lifestyle for them and not just a diet. And not just for them, really. Their families have begun to eat better…I know a certain 5 year old that will be questioning the paleo authenticity on all of his parents good eats for a long time. Teaching our kids the value of good foods will start them down the path of lifelong health. Keep it up!
