CrossFit Oakdale had several athletes compete at the FTF Affiliate Challenge in Fresno, more about CA on Saturday. It was a long day, generic with some tough WODs and tough movement standards but Team CFO pulled together and carried each other through it. Even through some long delays, order everyone’s morale was very high, base camp was relaxed and comfortable and Team CFO came through with strong performances.
For the most part, we got to cheer on every athlete as they took on the WODs. That was a nice by-product of a long drawn out day. Robin, Don, Chance, Emmaline and Hannah each continued to exercise to out cheers even as the days dragged on the and the schedule fell behind by over 3 hours.
Hannah W. competed in her first full CrossFit competition at the age of 13. Throughout the day, young Hannah could have been overwhelmed or overcome by events, but she never faltered. In the final WOD, which consisted of Snatches and Pullups, Hannah grunted and ground her way to an impressive finish. Hannah PR’ed her snatch at 65# this week, and then continued to hit her PR during the WOD again and again. Big Man Bob was so impressed with his daughter, I think the tough guy may have cried a little…
Tricia took a last minute call to join Jen, Paul and I on the team as Alison caught the flu on Friday. This was Paul’s first comp, and he went at it like a pro. Tricia took Alison’s place on the team after a last minute text message. Tricia ended the day batting clean up in final chipper style WOD. Tricia entered the final movement neck and neck with at least 2 other teams, and ended up in a battle to the finish over 25 burpees. As Tricia stalked down the competition, Biggie’s “Hypnotize” came blasting from the speakers. Biggie carried Tricia home.
Those final moments were all CrossFit. Tricia chipping at way at reps when all she wanted to do was stop, rest, just catch your breathe and make the burning stop. Tricia’s face was a mask of determination the whole way. She was freaking LOCKED IN. That kind of effort is rare, but it is a beautiful thing to behold.
Full Effort, Full Victory.
