Rocky Anderson By Thomas Giles

RockyThis month’s spotlight athlete is Rockford ‘Rocky’ Anderson. Rocky came to us less than a year ago and has been working his butt off since day 1. Every day that he comes into the gym he brings a positive and supporting attitude. Not only does Rocky give 120% effort into his workouts, he’s always cheering for and pushing other athletes to go harder. Rocky is a coach’s dream. He is always open and receptive to coaching, and wants any insight a coach can give him to become a better athlete.
We also know Rocky as the local Oakdale Cop and for that we thank you. Rocky expressed to me that around the end of last summer he was in a fight at work. He was out of shape and overweight, his fitness level almost cost him the fight. In our line of work losing the fight can easily mean losing your life. He knew it was time for a change, and found Crossfit to be the answer. As a coach Rocky, I’ve seen your confidence skyrocket and your level of fitness go through the roof. As your brother in blue I’ll get in the fight with you any day but as fit as you are, you won’t need my help. I know all the coaches look forward to watching your progress with our CF Oakdale family and are excited everyday you come into one of our classes. Here’s a bit more about Rocky.
How were you introduced to CFO?
Good friend and work colleague Matt Gardette introduced me to crossfit in October 2014
When did you realize CrossFit was for you?
After the first Saturday Workout I attended. It was so simple and brutal.
What is your first impression?
Man this stuff hurts but I want more. Crossfit is designed for all levels of fitness. My first workout was scaled. When I found out what Rx meant, I decided right then and there I was going to kill myself trying to get myself into Rx shape
What do like best about going to CrossFit Oakdale?
The coaching staff and members at CFO have a no quit mentality and that attitude is rare. That positive energy gives the gym a magnetic personality that is so empowering.
I have always wanted to…?..
Take summer road trip to visit every major league baseball stadium and take in a home game at each one.
One word people use to describe me: Intense
Outside of the gym I like to…?..Hang out with my son, go to the movies, take road trips to those off the beaten path hidden gem locations in our great state.
Three things in my fridge:
Organic eggs, 805 beer and fresh squash
The last thing you ate:
New York steak and sautéed asparagus/mushrooms/unions
Something no-one knows about me or would be surprised to know:
I watch crossfit videos on YouTube and try to figure out how to get my Double unders; muscle ups and kips for my pull ups. I want to Rx everything!!
Favorite physical activity outside of CrossFit Oakdale
Love to hike in the mountains and along the northern California Coast.
Favorite place to eat:
The Cheese Steak Shop. 30 locations in the bay area. I prefer the Dublin, San Ramon, Walnut Creek and San Ramon locations. Heaven on a bun. I work in a meal stop every time I travel to the bay area.
Proudest accomplishment:
Being a Father. I love every minute of it from the fun stuff all the way down to correcting homework. It has grounded me and allowed me to pass on all the great values my parents instilled in me.
If you could invite anybody to dinner:
Rockford Wayne Goddard and Paul Katuszonek. Two great men that were taken from this earth way too early.
Favorite workout attire:
My Choose the Wrench CFO shirt and my Rebook Nano shoes.
